Wife of British consul to Siam. In her first HW article, Mrs. Hillier wrote of an audience that she, her husband, and their party, en route from Singapore to Bangkok, had with a Malay sultan, and of her informing the sultan "that a treaty of commerce had been concluded between England and Siam, that a consul had been nominated, and that C. was on his way ... to commence, in that character, his duties at Bangkok." "C." was Charles B. Hillier, appointed July 4, 1856, as British consul to Siam, with residence in Bangkok (Foreign Office List, 1856).
