The Household Words Contributors' Book lists this item as solely by Wills; F. G. Kitton's The Minor Writings of Charles Dickens (compiled with the aid of Charles Dickens the younger) lists the 'Chip' as solely by Dickens. But whether Dickens or Wills wrote the piece, or whether they each had a hand in it, if Dickens followed his usual practice in such cases, he at the very least authorized the amplification and approved the final copy.
