The contributor writes in the person of a shy bachelor who in 1855 joins a Hullah singing class (conducted by one of Hullah's deputies) through which he meets the lady who later becomes his wife. ''What can I recommend better to the inhabitants of small towns and villages in general," he writes, "than a Hullah singing class." Payment for the contribution made by cheque.
John Pyke Hullah's work in improving instruction in music and in establishing singing classes was the subject of the H.W. article "Music in Humble Life." In A.Y.R., Jan. 5, 1861, appeared the article "Mr. Hullah's Gasses."
